Technology for Early Childhood Education and Socialization: Developmental Applications and Methodologies

Written for educators across the continuum, including teacher trainers, university faculty, and early childhood students, classroom practitioners, and administrators, this work offers perspectives on aspects of technology and education such as assessment, teacher education, special education, and family involvement. The book consists of nine chapters, including four international perspectives from Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, and the US, demonstrating how early childhood educators use technology in different cultural settings. One highlight of the book is a report on a research study examining the current state of technology integration in early childhood and primary classrooms in the US. A resource chapter for early childhood professionals lists and briefly describes articles, books, and developmentally appropriate websites, software, and programs for children and teachers, in areas such as the impact of technology on children's cognitive and social development, technology and content areas, technology experiences outside of school, and gender and equity issues. There are also guidelines for evaluating online information. Appendices offer a reflective checklist, a personal epistemology survey, a graphic organizer to analyze web sites, and a planning guide for technology use.
