商品簡介
This publication was produced in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition held at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago in 2008, with the intention of giving visitors an idea of how much knowledge can be gained when a site is scientifically excavated, instilling a sense of outrage at the annihilation of Sumerian sites, and filling them with a sense of determination to protect the cultural heritage of Mesopotamia. Essays include the looting of the Iraq Museum in context, efforts to protect archaeological sites and monuments in Iraq 2003-2004, the Oriental Institute's Iraq Museum Database, and legal aspects of controlling the international market in looted antiques. Some parts of the book would be best understood in the context of the exhibition; some of the essays can be read individually though the essays are not as in depth as other available books on the topic. There is no index to this title. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation c2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
