This book tells the story of the men that Crazy Horse called the "Walk-a-Heaps" - the hard-marching, long-suffering US infantry on the Frontier, whose importance has been overshadowed by the US Cavalry. It describes their life on campaign; lists the actions in which they fought - from the 1866 Fetterman massacre, through the 1866-77 Sioux campaigns, to Wounded Knee in 1890; and describes in detail their uniforms and equipment. The text is illustrated with fascinating early photographs, and with meticulous color plates reconstructing their appearance - on parade, in garrison and on campaign.
作者簡介
Ron Field is Head of History at the Cotswold School in Bourton-on-the-Water. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1982 and taught history at Piedmont High School in California from 1982 to 1983. He was associate editor of the Confederate Historical Society of Great Britain, from 1983 to 1992. He is an internationally acknowledged expert on US military history, and was elected a Fellow of the Company of Military Historians, based in Washington, DC, in 2005. The author lives in Gloucestershire, UK.
