Russia in Asia: A Record and Study, 1558-1899

Journalist and author Krausse (1859-1904) provided a historical background to the activities of the Russian government in Asia during his time. The first edition was published in 1899 by Harper and Row, and the second in 1900, when he could already predict the war with Japan that would break out in 1905. He covers Asiatic Russia, the absorption of Siberia, the conquest of the Khanates, the taking of Turkomania, the partition of Persia, Russian policy in Asia, the march on India, Russia in China, conquest by railway, Russia and England face to face, the theory of a buffer state, the secret of success, and the outlook. Alexis Sidney Krausse, 1859–1904, was a prolific writer and journalist and author of numerous books dealing with both social and political issues of his day, including The Far East: its History and its Question (1900), The Story of the Chinese Crisis (1900), and Starving London: The Story of Three Weeks’ Sojourn Among the Destitute (1886).
