商品簡介

Metrology is the study of measurement. It includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement and may be divided into three subfields:

Scientific or fundamental metrology concerns the establishment of measurement units, unit systems, development of new measurement methods, realization of measurement standards and the transfer of traceability from these standards to users in society.

This handbook contains articles dealing with general topics of measurement and articles on particular subjects in mechanics and acoustics, electricity, optics, temperature, time and frequency, chemistry, medicine and particles. The contributions of the first part are sumamrized as follows.

  • Introduction
  • Units
  • Fundamental Constants
  • Fundamentals of Materials Measurement and Testing
  • Measurement of Mass Desnity
  • Measurement and Instrumentation of Flow
  • Ultrasonics
  • Measurement of Basic Electromagnetic Quantities
  • Quantum Electrical Standards
  • Metrology of Time and Frequency
  • Temperature Measurement
  • Metrology in Medicine

作者簡介

MANFRED KOCHSIEK and MICHAEL GLÄSER, German National Metrology Institute (PTB), both worked many years in various fields of metrology and each of them issued more than a hundred scientific publications.

Professor Kochsiek was head of several divisions and vice president of PTB. He worked in the fields of mass metrology and weighing instruments and was also active in international organizations, particularly in the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) as vice and acting president. As honorary professor he gave lectures at the Technical Universities of Ilmenau and Hanover. Now, he is in active retirement and still keeps many appointments as metrology consultant in charge of the PTB.

Dr. Gläser worked in the fields of laser spectroscopy at PTB and at the International Bureau of Weights and Measure (BIPM) and of mass metrology at PTB. As head of the mass laboratory and later of the department solid mechanics he investigated various effects in mass measurement such as buoyancy, sorption and magnetic effects. He developed the ion accumulation experiment of PTB for linking the kilogram to an atomic mass, and he was the leading author of the OIML recommendation R 111 for weights. He was chari person of the Working Group Mass Standards and delegate in the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM). Now retired, he is still active in these fields.
