商品簡介
Livingstone (The Citadel) translated the first eight books and wrote most of the introduction as his PhD dissertation at the University of Rochester. A bibliography of works taking the poem as its central topic might contain three entries, he estimates, and suggests that the lack of attention is due to its length (18,372 verses) and the unavailability of modern editions. The two surviving manuscripts date to the early or middle 15th century, and clearly represent individual textual lineages and are far removed from any common source. The poem follows the basic narrative of the Old Testament, but is not a rote retelling. Marginal glosses and explanatory end notes are provided, but not the compiled glossary found in most TEAMS volumes. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
