The Strategic Management of Charter Schools ─ Frameworks and Tools for Educational Entrepreneurs

Frumkin (public affairs, U. of Texas at Austin), Manno, an education advisor, and Edgington, a management consultant, propose a set of tools and frameworks for educational entrepreneurs to use in managing the mission, internal operations, and stakeholder environment of charter schools. Arguing that strategic management is about the achievement of strategic fit and alignment among these three elements, they apply specific tools to nine school case studies to demonstrate their use for better outcomes. Tools include SWOT analysis, the use of logic models, the balanced scorecard for measuring performance, a leadership model, and measuring customer service through the Service-Quality Model (SERVQUAL).
