Church Dogmatics

Swiss-German reformed theologian Karl Barth (1886-1968) is considered by many to be one of the most important theologians of the 20th century. Indeed, Pope Pius XII once referred to him as the most important theologian since Thomas Aquinas. This work, Church Dogmatics, was his magnum opus. Begun in 1932 and worked on until Barth's death in 1968, it treats (and sometimes challenges and reinterprets) the whole of Christian doctrine. This edition of the work, consisting of 31 paperbound volumes, is a re-presentation of the 1936 English translation by G. W. Bromiley and T. F. Torrance. It is significantly longer than the 1936 translation because it adds English translations of all of the Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and French passages and presents them in footnotes, retaining the original passages within the main body of the text, thus allowing students without working knowledge of these languages with easier access to Barth's thought.
