Schockaert, Martine De Cock, and Etienne Kerre (all Ghent U., Belgium) seek the link between artificial intelligence and fuzzy set theory so they can be used together to reason about the kind of information found on the web. After setting out the required technical background, they look at fuzzy temporal information processing from the perspectives of modeling fuzzy temporal information, reasoning with fuzzy temporal information, and applying fuzzy temporal information to web information. Then they treat fuzzy spatial information from the same three angles. Considering temporal and spatial information separately clarifies similarities and differences between them.
