Writing to Prompts for Success on the Test, Grades 3 & Up

Help students write focused and detailed responses to any prompt! Veteran teacher Mary Rose provides lessons, activities, and tips for weaving writing test preparation into everyday lessons. Students will learn quick strategies for identifying the form of writing a prompt requires and how to use simple graphic organizers to organize their thoughts before writing. Mary also covers how to craft a strong opening, a coherent body with relevant details, and an effective conclusion. Includes dozens of ready-to-use prompts. For use with Grades 3 & Up.

Mary Rose, recently retired from the classroom after nearly four decades of teaching, was active with several state and national assessments projects, trained as a scorer for the Florida State Writing Assessment, and helped write the reading portion of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. She continues to present at state and national conferences and is a national consultant on improving scores on writing assessments. Mary Rose is an advisor for Storyworks magazine, a contributor to Scholastic’s Printables project, and the author of several professional books, all published by Scholastic.
