Handbook of Interpersonal Communication

Part of a nine-volume handbook series that conceptualizes applied linguistics in terms of its explicit problem solving capabilities and seeks to present applied linguistic knowledge in a non-technical manner and in a way that connects to neighboring disciplines, this volume offers 21 papers examining topics in interpersonal communication. They are presented in four sections introducing theories, methodologies, and tools for studying interpersonal communication; addressing the question of how linguistic and multisemiotic resources interact in interpersonal communication management; exploring how various factors (such as genre and participants' age) influence social interaction; and behaviors involved in conversational strategies. Each chapter introduces the particular topic, presents the key related contributions, and outlines possible directions of future research.
