Written in a conversational tone accessible to all, this guideis intended for women who are recent high school and college graduates, those in their first or second jobs, and managers and counselors who work with young women. The book begins with advice on interviewing and overcoming stereotypes and biases during the selection process, including information on compensation and negotiation and tips on how female workers and entrepreneurs can survive tough times together. The next sections cover issues related to interpersonal relationships in the workplace, such as coping with 'queen bees' and subtle forms of sexism, as well as issues related to workplace communication, such as e-communication and gossip at work. There is also advice on topics of professional advancement, such as making use of feedback and dealing with stress, plus guidelines on balancing work and family. A final section of the book discusses special considerations for women with disabilities, minorities, lesbians and bisexual women, and single mothers.
