George H. Rawls,?M.D., is the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Emeritus, and a Clinical Professor of Surgery, Emeritus, at Indiana University School of Medicine.? A summa cum laude graduate of Florida A&M University, Rawls graduated with honors from Howard University School of Medicine. After two years in the army, he completed his surgical residency at Ohio State University. Rawls served as a surgeon in Indianapolis for 34 years before taking on the Assistant Deanship at Indiana University School of Medicine.
In 2000, the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County [Indiana] established the George H. Rawls, M.D. Scholarship Fund Endowment in Dr. Rawls’ honor.? His legacies also include the IUSM Master of Science in Medical Science Program and the IUSM Lula and George Rawls Excellence Award.
He is an active force in his church and the community, serving on numerous boards. He also served for 30 years as co-chair of the NAACP's life membership committee.
