商品簡介

The legend of General George Custer's final fight at the Battle of Little Big Horn in southern Montana has portrayed Custer as a hero, martyr, fool and coward. As no "white" people were left after the battle to give an accurate account of the events, there is no consensus among historians, white or Native American, as to what actually took place. Denzin (communications, sociology and humanities, U. of Illinois) perused over 1000 paintings on The Last Stand, focusing on a few to understand not only its historical importance, but the hidden meanings which unearth the often racist depictions of people held captive by their, and their oppressor's, greed, egos, and fear. This book serves to challenge the mainstream, mostly white, point of view found in literature, film and art by bringing to light the drawings of the Native artists who lived it.
