This monograph on the role of lynching in American history and culture examines the real centrality of this crime to discussions of cultural development in the twentieth century and the attempts by this same culture to erase or white wash lynching from the narrative. Drawing on history, comparative literature, and personal research while traveling to lynching sites around the South, the work embraces linguistics and media studies techniques to argue that lynching and lynching apology are manifestations of latent and unresolved undercurrents of racial violence that still exist today. 作者簡介
Jennie Lightweis-Goff is a Visiting Instructor of English at the University of South Florida. She received a PhD in English and Graduate Certificates in Gender and Africana Studies from the University of Rochester.
