Quantum chromodynamics, or QCD, is the fundamental theory of the strong interactions, which bind protons and neutrons inside the nucleus. An outgrowth of Smilga's lectures for graduate students in high energy theory at Moscow's Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, the reference focuses on what's known about nonperturbative QCD dynamics. Smilga (now at the U. of Nantes) assumes a basic familiarity with quantum electrodynamics.
