This book is the last in the author's trilogy on his time spent in Afghanistan. Maloney (history, Royal Military College of Canada) served as historical adviser to the Chief of the Land Staff for the war in Afghanistan. In this account, he combines narrative and dialogue with background and analysis to portray the drama and violence of the summer of 2006, a pivotal period when guerillas began using conventional warfare. There is special focus on the men and women from Combined Task Force AEGIS, a Canadian-led multinational brigade headquarters, and Task Force ORION, a Canadian battle group. Maloney also discusses the problems of military operations in a harsh environment and looks at the human side of the war. The book is illustrated with b&w photos.
