Utilizing lively, interactive software, this innovative workbook/CD-ROM package encourages student exploration, demonstrates the relevance of applied calculus, and enables students to actively participate in the learning process. The workbook and software tools were designed to work together and each lab guides students in their discovery of concepts and explorations. The workbook supplies explanations of the concepts, suggestions for using the tools, encouragement, and many questions to guide student discovery. Developed by the authors and Hubert Hohn, the accompanying CD-ROM contains 40 interactive illustrations ("tools") that are colorful, immediately accessible, and that illustrate the basic concepts of calculus and some of its most useful applications. Each interactive computer tool is focused on a single concept or application. Reflecting the theme of calculus reform, students are asked to think about problems, make conjectures, visualize, and verbalize what they are studying.
