The Internatiional Financial Statistics published monthly by the International monetary Fund contained data of the Republic of China until February 1980. The cessation to publish our figures since thtat data has created a vacuum. As the Republic of China occupies an important niche in the world financial community, we have received repeated requests, from financial and academic circles, to devise a way to fill this vacuum. The Central Bank of the Republic of China, therefore, takes upon itself the responsibility of publishing the Financial Statistics Monthly, the Republic of China using scrupulously the IMF format and methodology to facilitate comparison with corresponding figures of other countries as published in the IFS.
