商品簡介
The series is designed to provide an outlet for scholars at the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham. Mullett offers a reading of Theophylact's letter collection from the last decade of the 11th century. She employs a variety of approaches in order to characterize a work that is both a literary artifact in a long Greek tradition, and the only trace of a complex network of friends, colleagues, patrons, and clients within Byzantine Bulgaria and the empire as a whole. The letters illuminate local economic and ecclesiastical history, relations with the Slavs, and the arrival of the First Crusade. The excerpts are only in English translation.
