商品簡介
Presents 11 original essays and three expanded revisions of essays published between 1976 and 1999. Contributors deal with some of French opera's unfamiliar roots and characteristics, and attempt to identify what makes this opera tradition different from any other, looking at those elements that other operatic traditions took from France. Some topics are the "melodrama model" in opera, the dramaturgy of grand opera, and orchestra and chorus at the opTra-comique . The linking of meaning and media in the subtitle is intended to suggest how French operas respond to analyses of their various narrative-systems. The editor is affiliated with the University of London. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
