商品簡介
Weitz (director, Center for Political-Military Analysis, the Hudson Institute) conducts an analysis of the role of institutional governance of international organizations in maintaining and promoting international security. He first examines the governance mechanisms of the United Nations (UN) and the Group of Eight (G8), noting how the latter is frequently more agile in responding to crises but lacking the legitimacy of the former. He then discusses the African Union as an example of a regional security institution, paying attention to how it has interacted with the UN, the G8, and other regional institutions. A case study of Kosovo is then presented in order to show the complexities of institutional interactions. Finally, he addresses informal security institutions through the case of the international response to maritime piracy off the coast of Somalia.
