Professional Pride

For professionals, managers, organizational experts, and students, Jansen (politics and public administration, U. of Tilburg, the Netherlands) et al. collect 30 articles that are a result of the Dutch project Professional Pride--Working with Courage and Confidence, and recount the pride among workers in a variety of public and semi-public professions in the Netherlands, including police officers, teachers, judges, doctors, nurses, and social workers. They describe how that pride is handled, worked with, managed, and organized by professionals to nourish it and guarantee the quality of work, as well as whether there is a consistent mode of thinking that will support pride and the various conditions necessary for it: persistent commitment, operational space, courage and voice, value-driven leadership, and seeking innovation. For this English version, the introduction has been rewritten and some of the articles from the Dutch version have been omitted. There is no index. Distributed in North America by ISBS.
