Alan Ware is a professor and tutor of Politics at Oxford University and a Fellow at Worcester College. He is the author of nine previous books, including The American Direct Primary (2002), which won the CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title Award. His recent publications include The Dynamics of Two-Party Politics: Party Structures and the Management of Competition (2009) and The Democratic Party Heads North, 1877-1962 (2006). Ware's research interests include American politics and elections, political reform in America, and American political parties.
