商品簡介
Although there has been a growing recognition among clinicians that experiences of pain and suffering involves a complex interaction of physical and emotional influences and that approaches to pain and suffering should therefore concentrate on "healing the whole person," this recognition has not really carried over into conventional clinical and scientific meetings. The Special Interest Group of the British Pain Society for Philosophy and Ethics was formed in response to this gap and its members have produced the 11 papers presented here by Wemyss-Gorman (retired consultant in anesthesia and pain medicine, Princes Royal Hospital, Hawywards Heath, England). Topics addressed include the role of pain clinics in pain management, the placebo response as a neglected path to healing, application of Eastern spirituality to understanding of pain, ethics and pharmaceuticals, lessons from working with victims of torture, the role of emotional sincerity in palliative cancer care, and spiritual pain in alcoholism and other addictions.
