商品簡介
This history examines the forces and consequences surrounding the conquest of Ireland by Anglo-Norman invaders and compares conditions in Ireland at the time with parallel economic development in Britain and Europe. Frame (emeritus, history, University of Durham) emphasizes that during this period, Ireland underwent not merely an incomplete military conquest but a deeper colonization. He looks at the reasons behind the 'retreat' of the Anglo-Norman colonizers and the subsequent political and cultural instability in Ireland. The book was first published in 1981. This second edition contains color photos and illustrations of historical art, plus b&w maps. It adds a new introduction and a postscript discussing the longer-term significance of some of the topics discussed in the book. This edition also contains a guide to recent scholarship. The book is distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation c2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
