Food Policy for Developing Countries

Pinstrup-Anderson (food, nutrition and public policy, Cornell U.) and Watson (economics, American U., Nigeria) have written this textbook to address the need for informed thinking in food policy that aims to end hunger in a world where sufficient food production is not the challenge it once was. The focus is on identifying food policy options for developing countries to achieve such goals as reducing food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition, and sustainably managing natural resources and mitigating climate change. Chapters cover what food-systems are, how they interact with various parts of society, market policies, poverty alleviation, globalization, governance and institutions, and the ethical aspects of food-systems. Each chapter includes an introduction, a conclusion and a section devoted to case studies, in addition to topical content. It is written from a social entrepreneur perspective and is appropriate for university-level classes on food systems and related development.
