Gagnon, a journalist who writes about Upper Michigan, profiles people whose lives are intertwined with Lake Superior, including men and women in the fishing industry, a botanist, a lighthouse keeper, a Native American woman who harvests wild rice from the lake every year, and a monk living on the lake.
