Design-Type Research in Information Systems ─ Findings and Practices

Design-type research is the interdisciplinary study of design methodology, principles, and guidelines. Vahidov (management systems, Concordia U., Canada) concentrates on design-oriented research in the context of the field of information systems (IS) and also examines design-oriented disciplines such as computer science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence. There is also discussion of issues related to the design of artifacts in general. Early chapters overview the design process, while later chapters review research in information systems, consider the debate over traditional science versus design-type research, and detail the use of design-type research in information systems. The author describes an original framework for representing meta-artifacts and applies it to e-negotiation systems.
