Caves in Context

It is the variability in the human use of caves and rockshelters that archaeologists emphasize as they survey the multiple significances of such natural places in a range of chronological, spatial, and cultural contexts across Europe. The topics include prehistoric cave use in western Scotland from Assynt to Oban, phenomenological perspectives on anthropomorphic cave painting in Norway, the use of caves and rockshelters by the last Neanderthal and first modern human societies in Cantabrian Iberia, caves in need of context in prehistoric Sardinia, cave burials in prehistoric Central Europe, and late Caucasian Neanderthals of Barakaevskaya cave.
