Fisheries Management and Conservation

Fisheries management and conservation draws on science in order to find ways to protect fishery resources so sustainable exploitation is possible. Modern fisheries management often involves regulating when, where, how, and how much fishermen are allowed to harvest to ensure that there will be fish in the future. This work on fisheries management and conservation covers a broad array of chapters on this field of growing importance. It includes chapters on illegal fishing, recovery of endangered fish, effective management of fisheries, fish invasions in river systems, selection of fishing areas, conservation efforts, and more.

William Hunter III lives in Houghton, New York. He holds a master's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a specific focus in ecology and evolution. He has done extensive research in the fields of limnology and the effect of water quality on aquatic life, and he is in the midst of project funded by the National Science Foundation researching the effects of a new sewer project on the water chemistry and aquatic life of Cuba Lake. A longtime science-lover, he has worked for Ward's Natural Science Inc., to create new biology, chemistry, and environmental science products to serve the science education community. He currently shares his interest in biology and chemistry with his New York state students to help build another generation of scientists.
