Guide to Interpreting Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

Italian ophthalmologists Lumbroso (U. of Rome La Sapienza) and Rispoli outline the steps for interpreting images in spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) by following a process of subdividing each image into its smallest components, then combining these details to arrive at a synthesis to diagnose retinal diseases and glaucoma. They discuss general principles for obtaining and interpreting images, interpretation of pathological cross-sectional OCT, visualizing ocular structures in three dimensions, retinal topography, and spectral domain for the study and management of glaucoma. Clinical reference cases are then presented, on vitreous and pathologies of the vitreoretinal interface, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusion of the retina, retinal epitheliopathy, cysticercosis, Vogt-Koyangi-Harada syndrome, and complex cases.
