Meehan (history, U. of Regina, Canada) examines Canada's early relations with China, highlighting Canada's presence in Shanghai from the mid-nineteenth century to 1952, when it closed its consulate in the city. He explores how missionaries, traders and government officials experienced Shanghai and how it influenced their views of China.
