商品簡介
The drama of Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-75) life and times has tended to overshadow the study of his music, says Rofe (music, U. College Falmouth, Britain), but people who know nothing about him continue to listen to the music for its own qualities. He places the music at center stage, mentioning politics only when it specifically related to his analysis. His particular focus is on the strong sense of energy that the music so frequently projects, and he suggests that this approach might be used to analyze other music as well. Among his topics are energy as melodic-harmonic motion, form in formation, symphonism, multi-dimensional energies in Symphony Number Six (i), and Shostakovich as a modernist in Symphony Number 14.
