商品簡介
This biography of Irish activist Alice Milligan (1866-1953) was written to accompany the "Alice Milligan and the Irish Cultural Revival" exhibition at the National Library of Ireland, which was curated by author Morris (Trinity College Dublin). Milligan was active in Ireland's anti-colonial movement; she also advocated for the human rights of political prisoners. A prolific author in many genres, she founded various political, cultural, and feminist organizations. This biography describes her role in the Irish cultural revival period, 1891-1921, focusing on popular expressions of the cultural revival, not just theater and literature. Of special interest is discussion of Milligan's use of visual and performance arts, such as photography, street parades, and magic lantern shows, as advocacy and education methods. The book includes a wealth of b&w historical photos and illustrations, about 90 total. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation c2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
