商品簡介
In a revision of his 2008 doctoral dissertation at the University of Edinburgh, Maciver (Greek, U. of Leeds) looks at the Imperial Greek hexameter poem by fourth-century writer Quintus of Smyrna as a poem worth reading and interpreting in its own right. He analyzes the poet's appropriation and use of the Homeric poems, but also recognizes intertextuality with other Greek writers and with Stoic philosophy. His is the first full-length literary study of the poem since 1904. He covers being Homer later, ecphrasis and the emblems of the past, speaking morality through gnomai, and posthomeric similes and Homeric likenesses.
