商品簡介
Lev (history of medicine, Haifa U.) and Chipman, who specializes in the social and intellectual history of medicine in the medieval Islamic world, present an edition, translation, and commentary of 30 original medieval medical prescriptions from the synagogue in Cairo, drawing on others of the 144 medical prescriptions that have so far been found there to cast light on practical medieval medicine, the use of material medica, the relationship between medieval medical theory and practice, and community health. They also explore who wrote the prescriptions, who prepared the medical recipes, and why and when practitioners used Judaeo-Arabic instead of Arabic. Photographs of the manuscripts are included.
