Back to the Roots: ─ Security Sector Reform and Development

Edited by Schnabel (a senior researcher at the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces) and Farr (social development and gender adviser at the United Nation Development Programme's Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People), this collection of 12 papers is presented in the hopes of reigniting a conversation about how security sector reform can be harnessed to aid in achieving developmental goals. Papers address issues of gender, security, and development; regional perspectives on security reform and development in West Africa, East Timor, and the Solomon Islands; the relationship between security reform and development when combined with efforts at disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration in post-conflict societies; and lessons learned from efforts to embed development in social security reform policy.
