Naive, small-town Minnesota-raised Becky is fresh out of a tiny Lutheran college when she somehow manages to snag a prime internship with the Sioux Falls Canaries. The bright lights and the big dreams soon run foul, though, as Becky soon learns that working for the Canaries is not as glamorous as it seems. The team is made up of veteran ball players with injuries, drug issues, and attitude problems—with some players only lasting weeks before being replaced. Still, there is innocent, old-fashioned fun to be had in the minor leagues, and Becky is ready to take it all in. The days are filled with mingled scents of grass, hotdogs, and things that are sweet and fried, like mini-doughnuts—and the sun-soaked fans. Becky passes the time with leisurely lunches, drinks with the “Courtesy Crew,” games of catch in the office, and the “celebrity life” of signing autographs for little kids that think she's somebody because of the Canaries shirt she wears. In Down and Inside, author Rebbecca Moen tells her “mostly true” stories of the highs and lows with the Canaries, in a hilariously honest voice. Rebbecca Moen worked in the front office for the Sioux Falls Canaries from 1993 to 1996. She lives with her husband and furry kids in Minneapolis, MN, and still enjoys her season tickets for the St. Paul Saints. Down and Inside is her first novel.
