International Investment Law and General International Law

The keynote address (also the title essay) and 12 papers by young law scholars from a March 2010 conference in Glasgow, Scotland provide an academic perspective on current issues in international investment law, particularly how it approaches fundamental concepts and notions of general international law, such as the law of treaties, state responsibility, diplomatic protection, and state immunity. They discuss such topics as situating an exotic special regime within the framework of the general international law, international investment law and treaty interpretation, denunciation of the ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes) convention under the general international law of treaties, and conditions of state responsibility.
