In 1621, Plymouth colonists and members of the Indians chewed down on the first Thanksgiving feast. But as is the tradition today, there were no American newspapers back then to sit down and read in the sofa after eating at the dinner table.
It wasn't until the 17th century that newspapers began to come up. The newspaper Corante began publishing in London. In 1645, the Post-och Inrikes Tidningar （《信件與新聞報 》）, the world's oldest newspaper still in circulation c流通）, began publishing in Sweden.
But it wasn't until 1690 that the first American newspaper,Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestick（《國內外公共事件報》），was published and lasted all of a day when British government shut the colonial project down.
Editor Benjamin Harris had intended to put out the paper "once a month, or more often".Despite coming under the rule of the government, bookseller and writer Harris was consid ered to be the first American journalist. Publick Occurrences was three-page long with a fourth blank page so that "citizen journalists" could write down their own news before passing it on to the next reader.
The first American continuously published newspaper was the Boston News-Letter 《波士頓新聞信 》）.It was first founded by postmaster John Campbell on April 24,1704. The weekly News-Letter was a half-sheet printed on the front and back, about 6 inches by 10 inches with two columns. Originally, the paper mostly repeated news from Europe; the publication also used tips from correspondents in the colonies and "reporter" sea captains coming in and out of ports.
