The Security-Development Nexus

This collection of nine essays and an introduction analyzes the complex interplay between security and development on both the inter-and intra-state level. The essays look at cases from Africa, Asia and Europe, and draw on peace studies. Specific topics include: policy conceptions of the security-development nexus, liberal state-building and environmental security, the rise of china and international order, the non-use of force, challenges of security and development in Central Asia, diaspora and peace-keeping, military-profiteering and resource-extraction in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and water-management. Ashok Swain is Professor of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, Sweden, and is also Director of the Uppsala Centre for Sustainable Development.

Joakim Ojendal is Professor in Peace and Development Studies at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg.
