The National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC) has loaned 50 works from its collection 400 French Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings to the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston, Texas) for a 2011 exhibition, and this volume is published as the catalogue. An essay discusses the building of the collection, full page plates follow, and commentaries are grouped together in a final section. The book is elegantly produced in an 8x12" format, on satin-finish stock. Interestingly, the images bleed off the sides--which creates an experience of the works that is different from a more conventional presentation with margins all around.
