商品簡介
Fein has added another superb edition to the Medieval Institute's series of editions of medieval texts for teaching. She has edited the work of fifteenth-century poet John the Blind Audelay, a penitential ex-chaplain living out his final days at the monastery of Haughmond in England. The work is presented in the original Middle English and Latin, with same-page translations of difficult terms. Annotations and variant terms are listed at the end of the book. Audelay's intensely personal poems are often lyrical. They show the deep religious belief of a medieval man not trained as a theologian. The Christmas carols are particularly lovely and it is a shame that no music survives for them. Students, scholars and performers will be enchanted by this edition of Audelay's poetry.
