商品簡介
By the time humans became vaguely recognizable as such, bats were already circling in the night sky. Allen describes how bats have served mankind as companions to the gods, pets, and even food. He describes their physiognomy, as far as it was known at the time of his writing, and their habits and distribution. He presents the benefits of having bats nearby, dispels some of the myths about them and explores some of the fears about their spreading disease or attacking humans. He also analyzes bat folklore, such as the notion that if a bat becomes tangled in one's hair one will experience a disastrous love affair or death within a year (what a choice). He includes many illustrations and photographs of bats and their habitats. This is a reprint of the original published by Harvard University Press in 1939.
