商品簡介
US classicist Lupu begins with a practical guide for general classicists to the corpus of Greek sacred laws. After reviewing the corpus, he discusses contents and forms of the law in the context of sanctuaries and sacred space, cult officials, cult performance, and festivals and ceremonies. The second part presents texts of 27 sacred laws from mainland Greece, the colonies, and the islands (except Cos) that have been published after Sokolowski's Lois sacrees des cites grecques appeared in 1969. For each he describes the physical document and its location and provenance, then provides the Greek text with emendations and restorations suggested by various scholars, his own epigraphic commentary, an English translation, and commentary on the content. Illustrations of the manuscript are also included for most of the documents. The combination of guide and primary sources should prove quite useful to scholars. No date is cited for the first edition. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
