Editing the Bible—Assessing the Task Past and Present

The annual Conference on Editorial Problems, held in Toronto, explores problems associated with the editing of numerous corpora of literature, ancient and modern. Not until its 43rd year, in 2007, was the Bible the center of attention, and most of the 11 essays here are from that gathering. Scholars of religion and the Bible tackle such topics as the genealogy of the biblical editor, the evolutionary composition of the Hebrew Bible, evidence from the Qumran Scrolls for the scribal transmission of Leviticus, the coherence-based genealogical method of reconstructing the text of the Greek New Testament, and the New Testament in the light of book publishing in antiquity.
