Four of the nine sections deal with nanotubes, their growth, characterization, properties, and applications. Three consider amorphous and diamond-like carbon, growth, properties, and applications. The other two treat field emission from all varieties of carbon and diamond, silicon carbide, carbon nitride, and beryllium films. Among the invited papers are discussions of mechanisms of single-wall carbon nanotube growth by laser vaporization technique as understood from in situ imaging and spectroscopy, the synthesis and characterization of cluster-assembled carbon films, low-threshold field emissions from nanocluster carbon films, and hydrogenated amorphous carbon deposition by saddle-field glow discharge.
