As the need for processing and storage of business and personal data has increased, a variety of storage technologies have been developed which offer increased storage capacities and data rates. This volume contains selected papers presented at two symposia of the Materials Research Society addressing recent developments in data storage techniques and materials. One symposium focused on phase change and nonmagnetic materials for data storage while the other dealt with advanced characterization techniques for magnetic data storage materials.
