商品簡介
Lavish palaces built in the late 19th century--at a time when the revival of historical styles (particularly the Gothic) was in vogue--are depicted in this suitably lavish, oversize book (10x13"). It features both archival and specially commissioned color photographs, many of which are printed full page with no bleed or in two-page spreads, to dazzle the eye with the richness of interior decoration and architectural details. The text consists of historical and descriptive material for each palace, and detailed photo captions. Among the 11 palaces showcased: Stolzenfels castle (Germany 1836- 1839), Miramare castle (Italy 1857-1860), Peles castle (Romania 1875- 1914), and Achilleion villa (Greece (1887-1891). Photography is by world-traveller Marc Walter; the text is by Coignard, a novelist and contributor to many French magazines. The book is indexed and includes a bibliography and visiting guide. Original publication was in French by Gallimard Editions. Annotation c2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
